When my nephew asked me how does the heart work, I thought well, it is a muscle and it pumps blood which delivers food and oxygen to the body. Fortunately, I that answer worked because he is only 7 and I was able to distract him with pulse and taking our heart rates. However, I know that answer will not suffice for very long so I have started doing a little research and asking how does the heart work so that I will be able to answer the question well enough to satisfy the curious mind of an eight year old. It is only one year away so I have my heart homework to do!
